MARIINE SERVICES TECHNICIANPORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., July 27, 2021– CareerSource Research Coast (CSRC) today announced the launch of a new registered apprenticeship program designed, in collaboration with Hinckley Yachts, to address a widespread shortage of service technicians within the marine services industry along the Treasure Coast. The Marine Services Technician Registered Apprenticeship program’s earn-while-you-learn model will help employers not only recruit new employees but also upskill and retain their existing workforce. The Marine Services Technician Registered Apprenticeship program incorporates a competencybased training model consisting of 18 months of on-the-job experience and 173 hours of related technical instruction (RTI). This training will prepare registered apprentices to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair sailboat rigging and inboard and outboard engines; install electrical operating systems; operate boat lifts; and prep, repair, and paint boat hulls. This training will prepare individuals with the skills they need to advance in the marine service industry. “The Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast sees a need for a skilled workforce and is excited to be working with several partners to increase awareness about programs including apprentice work-based training programs,” said Michelle Miller, director of operations for the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast (MIATC). “We’re excited about this partnership with CareerSource and the opportunity to develop skilled tradespeople who will continue the Hinckley legacy of providing exceptional services to maintain the world’s finest yachts,” said Matt Berbig, general manager for Hinckley Yacht Services.
